Kim & Kara Delmar Obedience Trial Feb. 25 & 26 2023
We arrived on Friday but where not scheduled to show till Sat. So glad we had the day to just get our bearings. The loud speaker was horrible. They did quit using it. When you watch the videos turn on your sound. The exibit building was huge and full of dogs and people. The back ground noise was deafening to us so it had to be awful for the dogs. Both Kara and the puppy where frightened by it all. We spent 5 hours there. Puppy spent most of time in her kennel and all I did with Kara is walk her around and just get her get use to all the commotion. When she quit shying away from everything, we did sit stays and down stays all around the different rings.
This picture gives you an idea of how big the building is. This was only one there where 2 more with just breed rings.
This is Kara on place in front of kennel. We had forgotten our tarp, so we had nothing to shield of from that nasty asphalt.
This is Saturdays trial. Each day there where 5 contestants in novice A.
I was so suprised with Kara's sloppy and horrible healing. When training at home she is so good sticking to me like glue. She was so distracted. She did hold all her commands. Sit stay, downstay, stand for inspection. AND COME!!!! All the drilling on the commands with the PPP course paid off. Those are the places that the other contestants where weak on and got Nq'd.
Sunday trial. The distractions where amped up if that was possible. The rings just past us utility and rally. Where giving the high point awards and ther where a hundred people over there, clapping and shouting and whisling. When you see Kara pulling hard to the gate when I'm on leash, I thought when I go off leash she is going to go straigh out that gate. Supprise! She did not, she healed better off leash than on.

And that is why we train so much against HIGH distractions - to teach the dog to obey no matter what is happening. Real life is unpredictable, this show proves that is true, YET, Kara obeyed despite the situation. She obeyed while the other dogs did not obey.
ReplyDeleteTHAT IS WHY WE TRAIN, ALL THE TIME, AGAINST UNEXPECTED DISTRACTIONS.
Margot Woods had a saying, "TRAIN HARD, so the trial is easy. " Indeed.
So very VERY proud of you and Kara, Kim. Two days of trialing in a ridiculously HIGH and unusually HARD ×+@%+!! environment and Kara obeyed anyway. And Kim, you knew what to do to help her succeed in THAT INSANE environment. So two trials and two legs earned towards Kara's Novice title.
Way to ROCK it! WOW!
