 OPEN: Lesson 1

THE DROP ON RECALL

LESSON 1 – Down on command from one step away

 Training Pattern:

  1. Put dog on Sit/Stay and step out to face it from one moderate step away.
  2. Hold the leash in your left hand at waist level, with no more slack than is needed to keep free of tension.
  3. Command, "FIDO - DOWN" as your right foot steps quickly towards your dog to block forward movement. Use your right hand, right pinkie finger towards the snap bolt, to slide the leash into a downward sweep.
  4. When dog is in Down, use right hand to lightly praise, then do a Return to Dog.
  5. If dog breaks the Down position before you release with EF, correct in usual way for breaking a Down Stay.
  6. Finish with EF (Exercise Finish) taking 3 steps forward to do so. After an AS (AutoSit), praise, give release command.
  7. Repeat this pattern 10 x a day.
