Lesson 1 HW

 This week is minimal homework.

 1) Practice Jump, Bar, no more than 3 times a day at low height.

2) Practice with the Glove. You should be able to do 6-8' Placed Retrieve on the ground, with NO setup, by the end of this week. Do take the white glove and wear it close to your body as.ut needs to have your scent on it.

3) Get or make your own circular table/elevated surface, with stable footing for you/your dog . Practice your turns WITHOUT your dog, just work Fido.

4) Review the new SH section and if you want to do field work, start the Pile work drill. Use white items for the dog to retrieve.

5) Those of you that have a dog struggling with retrieving the white glove, ask yourself IF and HOW MANY VARIED items have you thoroughly taught your dog the retrieve sequencing. Your dog should be able to generalize the command to "Fetch" anything and that includes your dog's toys. Today, Mary dropped nearly empty coffee thermos's and started to pick them up. I said, "No, there are trained retrievers here, call Boaz with 'Boaz, I meet help', then tell him to "Fetch" and "Hold " and send him to me. Which Mary did and Boaz did his job oh so well. Have we previously practiced retrieving and carrying thermos's? No, but my dogs know "Fetch" means anything I designate. Your Dog should be able to do so also so start practicing with various unusual items.  Their toys are  PERFECT items to start with as when the dog plays, the "Get-It" is a game, no correction. However, the "Fetch" is formal, it is NOT a game and there are corrections, EC, for failure to perform at lightning 😀⚡️speed. By now, your dog should be competent and confidently retrieving it's food 🍲 bowl at evert feeding.

That's the HW for this PPP Part II Lesson 1.  Have fun!
